Hypermetropia is the inability to see clearly at both near and far distances. It should not be confused with presbyopia, a condition that occurs in individuals over 40 years old without any prior vision impairment. In hypermetropia, the front-to-back diameter of the eyeball is typically shorter than normal.
As a result, the light rays refracted by the lens focus behind the retina instead of on its surface. This characteristic makes it difficult for individuals with hypermetropia to focus on objects that are close to them.
